The Patient Voice Project is directed by Austin Bunn and April Kopp.

Austin Bunn created the Patient Voice Project in the autumn of 2004. He received an M.F.A. in fiction in 2006 from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and will receive an M.F.A. in 2007 from the Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop, where he is an Iowa Arts Fellow. His writing has appeared in the Best American Science and Nature Writing, The New York Times Magazine, Wired, One Story, and elsewhere. He is co-author, with producer Christine Vachon, of the book A Killer Life: How an Independent Film Producer Survives Deals and Disasters in Hollywood and Beyond.

April Kopp co-directs the Patient Voice Project with Austin Bunn, and she taught a year-long, group writing class at the Mid-Eastern Iowa Community Mental Health Center. She received an M.F.A. in poetry in spring 2006 from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was awarded the Truman Capote Fellowship and a Teaching-Writing Fellowship. She is a Master’s in Social Work student at the University of Chicago (B.A., 2004).
